Eponine’s demeanour changes. Her shoulders hunch over, her lips tighten to a straight lined grimace, and those peculiarly green eyes that look slightly odd, darken and cloud. She drops her gaze to her feet. If Nadine has Julie, why bother with Eponine? But no - no, she can be a skivvy for them, a skivvy and canon fodder. She’s stupid if she thinks anything more.

The food in solitary is even less than what they got in the cells, and poor Eponine’s had been halved again to punish her for returning. The woman is a walking skeleton. She presses her hands to her alarmingly skinny waist.
