[When Steve intervenes, Wilhelm has just shoved his opponent to the ground. An Abraxan native, weakened by even more days in this hellhole than any of the Summoned have endured, the other young man stumbled over the uneven ground and crumpled fast. Wilhelm's rage, then, like a fire stretching for fresh kindling, jumps to the nearest target — which just so happens to be the guy who has grabbed his shoulder. He jerks his body, trying to pull free.]
I was trying to help him!
[But he refused to listen. Even though he's in danger — they're all fucked — and even though Wilhelm knows how they can get through this, he refused to see the answer right in front of him. Wilhelm hardly remembers doing it. Something ignited, and suddenly his knuckles were sharpened into fists, gripping the front of the other guy's shirt.
Accompanying his change in disposition is a transformation in his body: out of lesions on his arms and neck grow some kind of fungus. As if he's becoming a part of the cavern that imprisons them.
Early on in this ordeal, Wilhelm had realized that this must be Wanda's friend Steve. The one giving speeches, which, despite the derision from some of their number, placed him firmly in a leadership position in Wilhelm's mind. He was trying to keep them all alive. Steve, for his part, may recognize Wilhelm as one of the younger faces around the encampment. He's complained a lot, but he's gone with the flow and helped in whatever way he could.

And now he's trying to keep them all alive too.]
