There's a rush of relief when he watches the person crawl away to safety as soon as he's released; at least he had the good sense to do that, and now Steve can deal with the ball of undirected rage that's left.
His own mind has been buzzing, saturated in a paranoia that he's pretty sure isn't his own. He's been in this pit with these people for well over a week now. Why is it only after he and Sylvain went through that ritual that he's started to question whose side they're all on? He has the presence of mind, at least right now, to know that they're being made to turn on each other.
The anger is still there, though, trapped inside his ribcage and always threatening to break free. So when he's shoved against the wall, there's a part of him that enjoys it, his hands reaching out to grip tight around the other's forearms and hold him in place. Better this fury is directed against him; he can take it. At least for now, it seems that their strengths are well-matched.
