[ Curious to see what Steve will do, Ciri keeps her hidden crouch and watches him. What he decides actually manages to surprise her -- she'd expected a commotion of a different sort, would probably have resorted to something more disruptive in a violent way herself, but actually, this makes more sense for keeping their guards down. Hopefully, the risk he's taken by inhaling those spores doesn't cause a problem, considering some of the plantlife in this cave is irritating or even poisonous, but she's going to assume Steve's judgement is sound.

No time to overthink it. When his stunt draws the acolytes' attention, the two figures seem to look at each other, perhaps conferring though Ciri can't hear them. One of them drifts toward the coughing man tentatively, while the other, smaller figure stays behind, watching from a few feet back. It's probably the best opportunity Ciri's going to get.

While their mask is turned toward their companion and Steve, the acolyte who stayed behind doesn't see Ciri creeping up behind her. In one swift, sure movement, Ciri closes the final few feet between them swinging her makeshift short spear around in an attempt to press it to their throat from behind. It should have been easy. The acolyte is smaller than her, distracted -- Ciri knows she judged the distance correctly, and that she'd been quiet.

But somehow, the robed figure steps out of the way just in time, turning faster than Ciri expected. The sharpened-bone end of her spear misses, barely, and catches the edge of the mask, sending it flying.

After what the others had said, Ciri braces herself for the grotesque view of a disfigured face--

And is startled to find herself staring into the fully intact, totally normal, and very wide eyes of a startled young woman. ]
