He gives her an odd look, almost seeming confused in that moment.

"Well, yes. Given all I've been through, I've put a lot of time and thought into my death and this is most certainly not how it's going to happen."

And he means that. It's almost nonsensical, but given the determination that has driven Kaz, it makes perfect sense to him.

"I wouldn't expect anything less from you, Wr...Inej."

There's times when the word still comes easy to his lips. It's as much a term of endearment as anything else but she's spoken of a different life here, of leaving things behind and he won't deny her that.

He tenses, some part of him fighting not to jerk back and withdraw. Yet he lets his hand stay there. His breathing is a bit heavier and yet he doesn't look away from her with that sharp gaze.

"I'm sure we're much better off than Jesper. I worry about him like this." Not of his gambling but what he's done in trying to find them and how many chances he's taken from them.
