"If we get out of this, you should visit my Horizon domain. It's a tower full of books. Many rows and floors of books and anyone who visits can add their own or read what has been left." It requires effort to maintain books in the Horizon but some people have managed simply by loving it so well. Istredd's own books are memorized and in there because of his many years of it, plus he has added as many academic magic texts as he could for people without access to Thorne's royal libraries.
"The pages fill in with what your subconscious remembers. People remember more than they know." In a portion of the mind that isn't always easy to tap into. No book in there is entirely complete, but they are full enough to enjoy. Not to mention it's the ideal spot to leave notes about everything they've experienced here. Istredd misses his domain, he's tried to go back and only succeeded once.
"All places have their ups and downs. Solvunn also has farmland, community, and peace. Thorne is a gilded cage, perfect for the magically inclined but we are captives of an increasingly controlling monarch. Free Cities has freedom to do many things, but the military is in control and martial law was declared." Istredd is from Thorne and he plans on going back, he has too many important reasons to stay, but he worries sometimes about the others, about freeing them. He can't do that if he dies here.
Istredd waits for Louis to process what he is saying about the fake whispers. It isn't that he lacked being swayed by them. In a way being reminded of Stregobor shook him out of it, but it was the way the voice spoke. It reminded that youth in him of when he'd do anything for the man's pride and attention. Sad, in retrospect, but still a part of him.
"I'm sorry, Louis, but it isn't her." He cannot speak to the type of guilt that clearly comes from this loss, considering he said 'wronged.' "It's magic. Perhaps telepathy of its own kind, finding our weaknesses." Gods would obviously have that kind of power.
"Stregobor wronged me many times but I still sometimes feel like a boy again when I hear him speak. For all our conflict, being his chosen made me safe and special."
