Istredd smiles genuinely because he knows the expression of someone who also loves books the way he does. He doesn't really remember creating the library, he thinks it may have happened the first time, and it seemed to just be there when he returned. He theorizes that it's due to his psionic mage abilities that it works the way it does, intuitively reacting to everyone who walks in, allowing their minds to fill pages and read others. Either way, it has become a harbor to more than just him.
"I've been adding books from Thorne as I memorize them, they have an enormous royal library they let us look through, but I suspect nothing is in there they don't want us to read. The same as the book store." That is what he meant by control, to the point where Thorne even maintains collections that they have handpicked for the Summoned to have access to. It is frustrating. "Free Cities has full free academies though." He envies that so very much as an academic.
"Yes. It wants us to free it. Whatever it is." Could be a herald or a god or something else. Istredd doesn't know, it probably isn't good. He sighs and puts a little shield around his mind, if only for a few seconds. "We may have to, escape is important, but for now I do wish it would shut up. Just a little."
It's insulting because he doesn't want to hear Stregobor, he hates the sound of his voice, except what this is reminding him is that he doesn't. A part of him will always be the boy in the basement, creating beautiful illusions and betraying loved ones for a glimmer of his approval.
"We will both do that, Louis. I'd like to hear your stories, when we're not in the middle of hell." Hell makes him think of Lucifer and he pushes that away. Istredd lived decades with so little to show for it, but he can see that Louis did things. "We'll make it."
they are cute and I love them. Maybe wrap on this? We need to do a reunion!
