[ There's a blank look on the kid's face as Claude keeps talking, and it's a look he knows too well. It's the expression of someone who's been through something world-altering and not in a good way of broadening one's horizons. Maybe it'll hit Claude himself later; maybe he's simply been through too many strange situations in recent memory of Abraxas and otherwise to let it faze him without some deep thought first.

No time for that now. Now's all about getting this teen cleaned up, and eventually being talked at seems to inspire some responses. Mostly one word responses save the occasional sentence just to change things up, but he'll take that over sitting in silence. A gaze going over his shoulder to something behind him is what alerts him to Steve's return before the other man's footsteps do.

Claude hands the moss over to the kid with a motion that means keep cleaning, watches to make sure that instruction's taken, and then turns to Steve with a pleasant smile that's entirely forced to keep things whatever relative level of normal they can scrape together. ]

I think we could probably all use a bath or two but we're getting by. Turns out Tobias here is also from Cadens and thinks he might know someone sitting over there. [ Now is also the perfect time for Claude to elbow the teen and then nod in that direction of where there's a couple people seated another decent distance away. ] Why don't you see if that's true? Maybe they have an idea of what's going on and then you can come back and let us know. We'll be here.

[ Claude's ready to provide some other flimsy reasons and far sturdier reassurance to get the kid to move, but the lure of finding this out sends him on his way. That's good, because then Claude can stand with a sigh as he wipes his palms on his pant legs and looks to the pods and then Steve. ]

How bad is it?

[ Asked quietly, both to keep it from echoing and because of the gravity of that question beyond just what they've seen for themselves so far. It won't be enough to go return to the pods to open more of them since he assumes that's their next destination even if he's yet to move there. ]
