[ Their purpose fulfilled for the moment, Sam allows the relief being played out before him to finally seep into his own body, to loosen the tight strings on his heart. Head ducking, Sam struggles to swallow the complicated wash of emotions at seeing this moment playing out (again and again). Some (foolish) part of him is banking on the angel's return being beneficial not only to relieve Dean of his current temperament, but also in removing some of the tension they've all been feeling. He wouldn't break that up for anything, not when he can tell in these seconds how clinging to each other is all Dean and Castiel can want or bring themself to do.
He's beginning to realize how much these reunions change and shift over the years, how they've somehow become more fulfilling and yet also more heart-wrenching with every struggle they face together. Now, with Jo's consistent presence, it's that much more obvious how easily they all knit together; even if Sam often imagines he's an outsider, moments like these are just further proof that family means everything (and no one gets left behind).
Perhaps most importantly, a piece of their home has been returned, something that's grown beyond chosen family, more a cognitive way of being than anything else at this stage. Inexorably bound, destined to be together, a (new) way of life.
He doesn't mean or want to interrupt the moment, but he does anyway. His arm slides around Jo's shoulders and he drags them all together into an all-encapsulating hug. Not tight for fear of causing further injury, but whole for the time being. This will have to do until they can get back and pull Jack into the fold. ]
