Similarly, Sam appears in the rugged clothing of Abraxas, draped more aggressively with thick, hearty fabrics than usual. His shoulders are tight and expectations are leaned heavily on a timetable that's already feeling too long. There's a sense that too much longer would mean more deaths and for all that Sam wishes he weren't involved, he's never going to feel right about sitting by and not doing his best when lives are on the line.

"I don't know what 'this' is, but sure," Sam lies. He's a little relieved and he won't admit that, either. Perhaps it's worth noting that he does give a hair of credence to the annoyance he feels at being brushed off. Far be it for Sam to appreciate the attention, but there's something extra unnerving when Lucifer's changed his tack. Worth noting.

Sam tugs his bag from his shoulder — a leather satchel more than a backpack — and he opens the flapped top to offer Lucifer access to the the contents. "You've been here a while. Do you know anything about these plants?"

Is this a tactic to stay close? Yes. Does Sam also feel compelled to hear more? Absolutely. He's eager, in fact, to know who is out there causing Lucifer to stick his neck out.
