Jesper doesn't know about the agenda or the politics and it wouldn't even occur to him. Even if they have shady reasons, it doesn't matter, they can't refuse now. He'll just make a bigger stink and they have to know that. He's a little surprised at how defeated Mat looks, wondering if it's just everything hanging over him still. It makes him somber, knowing his bright attitude probably isn't very sympathetic.

He reaches out to run his fingers through Mat's hair gently, leaning forward to kiss his forehead. Jesper plans on listening to his heartbeat for as long as he'll let him, even when they get back to the inn together. He'll have to figure out where they'll put him, Inej can probably move in with Kaz, he's just next door.

"Baby, there is no way when I take you out of here that they will force you back there. Whatever the power move is, it doesn't matter. They know everyone's watching."

Jesper looks down at him, trying not to focus on all the ways those bastards cut his lover up and chipped him away. Or he'll go to the prisoners' cell and kill them all.

"I know it's scary to do a big move but once we get you settled at the inn it'll get easier, I promise. And if you're feeling guilty about the others, don't worry, I am not going to give up our rescue plan just because you're with me. We'll get everyone back eventually." Except for Mat, who he gets now.

Jesper isn't even capable of seeing past his hopes now.
