[ Istredd has always been unwaveringly level-headed and it has been tested in every possible way during this experience. Yet he is holding steady even now, bloody and in pain, but he did manage not to have the ritual. It made the difference. This does mess with their idea of what was religiously right, I'm not surprised some of them are snapping. If the gods were with them, theoretically, no one should have been able to escape.

[ Istredd is not a believer in any great sense. There are gods in his world and he's always respected the concept of it, but he is a scholar and a historian, religion is not his strong suit. But he has learned more about other sphere religions and the fervor it creates, and Abraxas has taught him infinitely more about that. It's manipulative, but it's earned. ]
