"The geniuses dabbling with the creepy shrines apparently woke up something."
Kell swerves right dragging Wilhelm with him, narrowly escaping a chunk of falling rock. This is his interpretation of the mayhem. It's also not the only thing those people have been poking. Kell realized to his great dismay, that despite his great plans simply surviving - and trying to makes sure Wilhelm and Mat won't perish - took all of his energy. Other people did all the investigating. But wounded pride or not, Kell can't afford to sulk he doesn't a piece of the action. Not if he wants to get at least Wilhelm out, if not all of them, himself and Mat included.
"There's something behind that boulder at the back of the cave. It could be a way out. This creature...Sanct!"
A putrid blob hits the ground way too close, Kell is second too late to fully escape the spillage. At least he was able to shield Wilhelm from it. He tries to ignore the screams as people get crushed under the monstrous feet of the creature in the middle of its own escape. They will haunt him. Even now, he already feels the sting of guilt. He should do something. Help those that can't help themselves. The monstrous being does not differentiate who it steps on. Kell wouldn't care if only the Acolytes were being mushed.
But can't afford to stop, to look around, not if he want a chance to get Wilhelm out. This is what he made his mission since he realized they all have been taken. He can hate himself for not being able to save anyone else once he's sure Wilhelm is safe.
