Istredd would agree that those who died, died badly. They tried to save as many natives in there as they could, but there were many losses, and the ones who had been in there longer simply couldn't make it. He plans on checking on the natives who did make it later, not only the Summoned. They were ignored or missed entirely by their nations until the Summoned were taken. No one would have ever come for them.
