Jesper can tell that Mat is distressed. Obviously he is. Everything went really fucked up. He probably just needs to get through some things emotionally to get to the next part. Purge these feelings and then he'll be ready on the other end. He can see how upset he is and he sits onto the bed closer to him. He just wants Mat to know that he's there, that he's real and this is real.

"This was an insane situation, of course you weren't able to control it. They cut you off from it for weeks. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry you went through all of that." He reaches out to cup his cheek, caressing his skin, gray eyes emotional just from hearing parts of it. The suffering of his loved ones is so much worse than his own. He would rather be tortured for months than see someone he loves get even a little hurt.

"I promise, I will find you the teachers, better teachers, and we'll get through it together. I know what it's like to be afraid of what you can do." Jesper's actually very scared currently about what he can do. Not scared, possibly more apprehensive, but he wants to get away from the bloodlust. The rage. The enjoyment of death and suffering. It's not him. This is him. He loves and protects.

"Mat, you can't go back to Thorne. Listen to me." Jesper maybe didn't help that. Well, no, he knows he didn't. It wasn't intentional. "They will never let you leave again. They are just going to tighten the noose around all of you more after this. This is your escape, it's what we've been hoping for."
