SSHHH never be sorry its perfect

[ at mention of the ascension, castiel stiffens, eyes drifting down and somewhat unfocused, remembering visions. impossible to say if they were divine, or just result of hallucinogens and sensory deprivation.

he doesn't share it with lucifer. it was too personal, rattled him too deeply. it's dug roots into places he wouldn't trust his big brother to so much as glance at.

he zeros in on the kids instead, watching lucifer with critical, narrowed eyes as he claims responsibility, as if he's ever felt a need to put others before himself. if he knew about the mark, maybe there'd be a sliver of a benefit of the doubt, if there were more distance between the apocalypse and to trail of corpses he lift on earth. he could tell his brother he's full of shit, but that just shuts down the conversation. no, he wants to know more. if this is some game or charade, he wants to see lucifer string it all out for him, go through the entire performance. ]

Why?

[ a stiff deadpan with a flat gaze. ]

What's special about these three adolescents that excuses their humanity?

[ if it's an act, castiel demands he act harder, do better. dance, liar, dance. make it believable beyond aggressive possession. be specific, give reasons, show some glimpse that he's taken half a second to get to know any of them personally. what's worth protecting these weak and frail things, which lucifer so openly loathed only a handful of years ago. ]
