Kell is rarely the person anyone expects, or frankly ever wants to, see behind them. He can understand the disappointment. Wouldn't even disagree if he knew what Wilhelm was thinking about. He does not, so he interprets that fleeting glance as doubt. That he will do as promised, that he will follow, won't turn around leaving Wilhelm to fend for himself.
He's not even surprised. It's not like knowing him has been a great boon to Wilhelm. They started wrong, got a little better in the process, and now are back to Kell failing to help him in any meaningful way. He wasn't even able to heal his wounds the way Istredd healed his. So the least he can do is to get him through this attempt at freedom.
They can't know what's on the other side of this passage. It's dark and humid, and feels as if they were wading through the innards of some monstrous beast. Given that one such creature just gave them a shot at escape with its rampage, Kell wouldn't be surprised if they just emerged from a half-rotten corpse of another one at the end of it. Though, the webbing seemed quite alive so maybe they will need to cut their way out.
"Don't look back, Wille! Just keep going! I'm right behind you!"
It might be his wishful thinking, but Kell can swear he can feel a chilly draft coming from the direction they going in.
