He doesn't hide it and the two can sometimes seem like a unit when they're in step with one another. He and Yennefer as youths used to talk about a great many things, but small talk or useless wondering was never their way. Istredd's not great at it either.

Anyone with some magical ability would be able to sense that there seems to be some kind of shield around them, something that is muting the outside. Muting them from hearing it, and from anyone hearing within. It's a common spell he uses when attempting to have private conversations with people within these walls. It's not 100% foolproof but he hasn't noticed anyone managing to get through it yet.
"We have to be careful about what we say around here, it is likely they are listening or you should suspect they are. Going to the Horizon is the safest option." So if she wanted to talk to Yennefer about anything more serious, that is likely the better approach. "Everything I've said to you is common knowledge so it wouldn't flag any attention." If they were listened to, Istredd's been polite enough not to express too deep of an opinion.
