[Despite his lack of experience in this particular area, sometimes Wanda does seem so young to him with her moody sighing over problems that seem not terribly difficult to resolve from his perspective. Maybe he's just used to conflicts of a planetary scale.]

You manage the monotony just fine.

[And Wanda, he thinks, faces a far steeper challenge keeping herself busy than a man who isn't accustomed to snapping his fingers and getting his way.

Michael maintains his viewing window between the shelves, sliding the next book out of the way.]


Surely he's capable of judging what does and doesn't suit him for himself. He wouldn't be the first city boy to yearn for a quieter life. There's work for him to do here besides farming, for that matter—arbitrating land or business disputes, perhaps.

[That's a job suited to a lawyer's skill set, isn't it? He'd just have to adjust to rulings made in number of goats rather than money.]
