[ It's an interesting question. Julie can't say she's really ever thought about how she personally determines the abstract value of things. She considers this as she keeps looking at the statue. She feels like she could have found a better meaning in this if it were not dedicated so specifically.
The dedication is what she thinks is meaningless, she decides. It cheapens any other possible meaning by trying to hitch a wagon to a much larger, more spotlit topic. ]
I guess it feels sort of... like, commercial to me. Like somethin' you'd buy in a fancy home decor place and stick in an empty space on a bookcase to look good. But big. [ She decides that's why she doesn't care for it. Because it doesn't feel unique or new or poignant, like it has something to really say. Still, her nose wrinkles. ] I don't know. Art wasn't a very important thing where I'm from. Least not art like this. We just had paintings of farms and animals and stuff in the only art museum anywhere near where I lived.
[ And it wasn't as if she'd gone out of her way to take in the real art once she made it to Vegas. So maybe she just sounds like an asshole. ]
