Kell wouldn't count himself as observant on a good day. Not with people, at least. He used to think that way about himself, and then was painfully proved otherwise, so now he has a lot less faith in his assessments. Here, though, with Istredd and Lucifer? He spent enough time with each of them to be pretty certain in his opinion.

"Then there's two of us." Kell's not used to get what he wants, either. A lot was taken from him here, but he gained a lot too. He'd never had someone - an older, more experienced mage no less - to treat him the way Istredd does. To care, to teach, to look after him, not because he's an Antari, a weapon of the crown and shield of the crown prince, but because he is himself.

He followed Istredd's gaze to Lucifer and back. For Lucifer, this is definitely is new. Kell remembers their first meeting, and many later on. There was a shift going on over time. A shift that ended with him suddenly having a bunch of people personally closely connected to him.

"He changed. A lot." This earlier Lucifer might have searched for Kell, as a valuable asset in need of protection, but he would have never hugged him. Would never have shown - in his own way, yes - genuine joy that he sees him in one piece. That's all Istredd's doing. "Because of you."
