[ Cas finds himself nearby Nadine during the performances, watching her beam up at Jaskier, her lover, with giddy adoration and excitement. It's an endearing sight, not one he's gotten to see terribly often. Life back home didn't make much room for romance, and one wouldn't really call Dean's occasional one night stands anything amorous. Even those have been absent the last couple years.

And yet, love like this is one of the core aspects that makes humanity such fascinating, unique creatures. It's not something angels ever had, it's hardly something angels understand, though apparently Anna had muddled through it while human. Cas still finds himself pleasantly baffled and entranced by it. Such a bone deep, instinctual emotion that alters brain chemistry and physiology alike. Completely uncontrollable - you can't change who you love or do not love, it simply is or isn't.

Throughout human history, the value of it has been noted by rulers, intellectuals, humanitarians and artists - "Love is the only way to rescue humanity from all ills," in the words of Tolstoy, or from Tennessee Williams, "We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love." So integral and obvious a key component of meaningful, purposeful life to humans, and yet angels struggle to grasp even a wisp of the concept. A part of him aches to know it, but Castiel's content enough to simply bear witness. ]

It's refreshing to see you so happy, Nadine. [ the emotion of it seems to fill her up with light, brimming with a joy that seems easy as breathing. ] You must care for him deeply.
