They don't get the rights of citizens, the natives view them as curiosities at best, and they have gone two years without any kind of real representation of their interests in the hands of their captors. As far as she's concerned, they are owed this kind of treatment in exchange for the freedoms they've lost. The natives have their own problems, sure, but she doubts many of them are of the same magnitude as "brought back from the dead and robbed of all rights".
