WELCOME TO SOLVUNN!
WELCOME TO SOLVUNN!
Welcome to Solvunn! Bright suns and merriest of welcomes to you! The portal opens in a vast field on the western side of town surrounded by cattle, with a distant view of the bustling marketplace. The first impression of the settlement is one of idylic, country charm. There are no looming structures or crowded streets. Instead, there are cozier houses on wide streets and community buildings made of stone and wood. A gentle breeze rolls across the field and the sun is high in the sky.
There's not as much magic here as in other locations, but it's there. No one will be stopped from entering Solvunn, though suspicion will be cast upon new arrivals. Citizens will be friendly and welcoming, but curious about their new visitors. It isn't often that they welcome new folks- especially not so many at once!
With tensions between the other communities, Solvunn will not be keen on ratting out those who fled Thorne, but with the knowledge that sanctuary will not be given for free. Everyone does their part, whatever that part may be.
Asking questions will result in being told to find Rowan March, one of the council members, somewhere in the marketplace.

Though the severity of the transformation has reduced along with his peace of mind, he's still showing the miniature horns, claws, and tail of his draconic side. Though an improvement of circumstances in all regards, it's hard to be at ease yet. Maybe speaking to this man will help with that.
He approaches in a set of fresh clothes, lent to him by his current hosts. His arms are folded around his chest uncertainly, his tail swishing to match.]
Aye. And what does your council think of the fruits of Thorne's labors?

We're none too happy about Thorne's meddling, but what's done is done. The gods saw fit to send you to us for a reason, it's not for us to question why.
[ Rowan gives Estinien a sly grin. ] Anyone looking to get away from them is alright in my book.

Perhaps it's rude to go straight for the big issues, but he doesn't seem any point in wasting the time of the commune's leaders. He's already quite willing to collaborate with this community, he just wants to know on what terms.]
I can say that Thorne made few friends, even among those of us it deemed 'worthy.' From what I saw, most of their flock abandoned them at the first opportunity.
[If Rowan and his people are looking on the bright side in terms of their arrival, he'll do his best to justify it.]
If you and your council are interested in the details of what transpired, I see little reason to keep the High Mage's secrets for him. Your people have been kind to me and mine, in sharp contrast to the months I've spent rotting in Thorne's dungeons.

Aye, their downfall will always be their deep belief that what they're doing is the only solution, people involved be damned.
[ He glances over toward the man. ]
If you're willing, I can get you in front of the council to tell your tale. Or you can tell it to me in a less-crowded setting.

I would be full glad to speak to the council, whenever they are able to assemble. I take it this act on behalf of Thorne is unusual, if not entirely unprecedented.
[He's curious to find out what the council would be willing to say behind closed doors, to gauge how threatened they seem by this whole thing.]
Had you heard of our presence in this realm before the portals were opened?
no subject
I will put it in front of them and get back to you. Hopefully you won't have to wait around for too long. If I know anything about Winifred, she'll want to hear from you as soon as possible.
Aye, there were certainly whisperings, but in a place where no news is good news, word travels fast. No way we could have anticipated so many, of course! They're always up to somethin' in Thorne.

There have been two different bouts of summonings, one a few months ago, and another a few weeks ago. I believe they were trying to be more cautious in their second attempt... but at the same time, ended up with just as many 'failures'. I know little of the magicks they employed, but I do have to question their methodology.
...Unfortunately, all this 'Oliver' character told us of Solvunn was that it remains neutral in the conflict surrounding the Singularity. The distinction I would like to understand is whether you consider yourself to be non-interventionist, or simply in disagreement that Singularity needs to be meddled with at all?
[It'll be somewhat inconvenient to his goals if it turns out Solvunn is aggressively opposed to taking part in any form, even to slow the advances of the other nations. But if that's a problem he's going to trip over, he'd rather know up front.]
no subject
[ Being positioned so far from the Singularity makes things difficult, but hopefully their newcomers are just as invested in letting things lie they'll lend a hand to their cause.
Things they've done in the past haven't worked in their favor, but with all this outside experience, maybe things will shift if the gods will it so. ]

The High Mage seemed to believe that the Singularity was faltering... doing some manner of damage to the many worlds connected to it. Does Solvunn have a different perspective on that phenomenon as well?
no subject
[ Rowan doesn't pretend to be an expert on the subject. Winifred would know better than him, and one of their mages could help impart better wisdom. ]
no subject
But, Rowan isn't necessarily the one with the most nuanced opinion on the topic. Estinien knows the type, he thinks. Personally, he's never been satisfied by simply trusting in the gods' judgement.]
Are there teachings of a time when they did? There seemed to be little talk of them, in Thorne.
[It's not a judgemental question, at heart. After all, his own nation had a patron goddess that was respected but also feared.]
no subject
[ He shakes his head and offers Estinien an apologetic smile. ]
Forgive me for my outburst. I've no right to drag you through my squabble with them when you've got your own reasons.
no subject
No need. 'Tis mine intent to understand this place and her people - and the gods that watch over them alongside. I am interested in what history you have written... though writings are far from my strong suit.
[He can read but not particularly quickly, given his lack of practice.]
Is there a primary... church or temple one could hear your gods' teachings at?
