As they're reacting to his words he finds a spot to lean against a wall, crossing his arms over his chest.

"I told him I wanted to know more about Solvunn and Thorne's history, and the old gods than what we're allowed to learn from the library. He dismissed both of his guards from the room before explaining that they don't want superstitions born of old fears and wild devotion running 'rampant' in the minds of their students."

Which partially confirms a guess about the reason for the information being unavailable, if they take him at his word. He pauses, then continues.

"He granted that I wasn't a student, and I asked him about the Ninth High Mage's exile."

His lips purse.

"He implied that all spellwork requires fine-tuning and experimentation over time, including the Summoning spell. And that back then, though the specifics are apparently lost, something went wrong with the Summoned of that time. He said they became something unlike themselves, unhinged and dangerous."

Kahlil speaks all of this in a neutral, but reserved kind of tone - reading the expressions of the two people in front of him as he does so. He's repeating someone else's words, not proof seen with his own eyes. But the explanation had not been surprising, given some of what they have already guessed.
