The Aquila Portal / Time to Go!

Welcome to Aquila!

Fun in the Sun!

An invite shows up on the network from Jesper Fahey to the Free Cities Summoned stating the following:
Hey everyone, I managed to score funds from our money makers to have a group outing through the Aquila portal. We deserve it, don't you think? We did vote it into being after all. So get out your beach day clothes (or lack thereof) and meet at 9 AM tomorrow. If you come later, I'll let the portal people know the list allowed. They've got chairs and such to rent there, so don't worry if you don't have anything helpful.
Let's party like we're in the Horizon! If you need some extra cash while there I know the people to beg.
PS - No arguing, Crows. (That means you Kaz.)
True to his word, Jesper will be waiting at the newly opened portal to mark the Summoned so they're allowed to get through with the money he's collected. He'll smile and wink at them as they go through. He is dressed casually himself for this outing and in high spirits. Summoned can meet up here and go through together if they'd like or maybe be persuaded if they're not really sure about it.

Aquila is the world's fastest-growing economy and the scenery in Aquila is also considered some of the most beautiful, with both the mountains and beaches of Andromeda Bay nearby, making it a popular destination for vacationers.
The beach may be exciting, but it isn't the only part of Aquila to enjoy! The massive public market takes up most of the city's center. Anything you might want can be found here. Countless booths and stalls and carts fill the town's center, and traders from all across the nation congregate to offer their wares. From raw materials such as fabrics, dyes, exotic wood and stones, to finely crafted artisan everything. Furniture, clothing, foodstuffs, weapons, art, magical oddities, it's all here. The market opens at sun-up and shuts down sometime after sunset - plenty of sellers will linger, hoping for one last sale of the day.
Art and fashion thrive in Aquila. Studios and galleries of art are scattered all over the city and artists sketching or painting out on the streets or on the nearby beaches are a common sight. This is the time to go looking for new clothes as seamstresses and tailors are all looking to outdo themselves and create the next big fashion statement.
But if it's the beach fun you're looking for ....

It's more crowded than usual in Aquila thanks to the emergence of the portal, but the Summoned will manage to camp out their own area on the right side of the beach and have freedom to enjoy themselves alone. Nearby one of the entrances of the beach is a local business called The Wave Palace. There people can buy or rent chairs, cloth to sit on, hats, and other beach items to feel more comfortable.
Once settled onto their spot on the beach, the Summoned can enjoy a full day of various activities to either relax or be active. They can swim or race to see who is the better swimmer, do the same on a sand race, and head up to a popular nearby cliff that is perfect to jump off of. Challenge each other to the perfect dive or laugh if someone ends up belly-flopping.
Anyone can lounge comfortably in the sun or maybe they want to get creative and build sandcastles. They can rent bowls and sticks and other instruments at the shop to gather sand correctly. Maybe your castle is remarkably impressive or dismal at best, but the point is to have fun. If you're feeling mischievous you can bury a friend in sand, or even a stranger if you want to test fate. You can find rocks or shells to collect and bring home as a reminder of the trip here.
There is a bar down the beach called The Wave Crash Pub where people can sit and listen to live music or carry drinks back to their chair. At some point in the day, someone suggests playing a game of volleyball or something similar, and a net and ball can be found to set it up. Test your might against each other and no cheating! (Just kidding, cheat away.)
As the day comes to a close, stay long enough to watch the sunset together or do some night swimming to cool off. When it's time to go home, don't forget to either return your rented items or decide to buy it. See if you can convince a friend to get a keepsake or ask their opinion of one on the way out. Hope you all had fun in this beach day episode!

[ She's teasing. But also means it. Honestly, good to see Viktor healthier, even if he still doesn't quite look in his element at the beach.
At his question, she wrinkles her nose and answers flatly: ] I'm here under duress. [ Nodding at wherever Sephiroth has ended up, probably not too far away. ]
Can you believe Jaskier bribed him?
[ This is not true. ]

[The flotation device may or may not have been Jayce. Viktor will maintain, also, that there’s a difference between a controlled swimming experience and being unceremoniously dropped into the bay, fully clothed, half a mile from the shore.
Viktor follows Ciri’s gaze to Sephiroth and raises an eyebrow appraisingly.]
To bring you here? [He’s not going to comment on the familial decisions of Ciri and Jaskier and Geralt, but as someone who is also told he must decompress, he understands, offering her a sympathetic glance.] I do like the water though. Boats, especially. I used to go down to the docks as a child, to watch them.

She lets out a long huff of a breath, streeetching out her legs on the lounge chair, and her arms up above her head for a few moments before settling in. ]
Yes! [ Is she pouting? ] It's a conspiracy, I tell you. [ She does not go into the reason why she was pushed into "having fun" instead of staying at home, but considering Viktor is well-acquainted with her usual method of stress relief and how many weapons it involves, he can likely surmise someone thought some old-fashioned relaxing would be better for her instead.
Flipping around onto her side, Ciri props her cheek up on a folded elbow to face him. ]
As did I. Huge boats would dock at Cintra, from all over, and I'd sneak out in disguise so I could get closer. [ She laughs, a bit nostalgic. Maybe she's mentioned to Viktor before that she grew up near a coast, though much like him, it seems she doesn't speak much of her past or upbringing, at least in any detail. ]
And often, I'd visit the islands my grandfather hailed from. But they were all cliffs and rocks, not like it is here, all smooth and soft sand to lie down in.
Did you ever visit a beach like this before here?

[Viktor's tone of voice does not indicate that he agrees, rather, with the detached air of someone who is also told to relax, and hates every second of it. Right now, however, he seems to be doing fine, mostly because he's brought work with him.
And the company is nice too. Ciri hasn't told him much about her childhood, but he hasn't exactly divulged much in turn. They ease into it unexpectedly, and it elicits a little smile.]
A beach like this? No, Piltover is far too industrial. The river Pilt cuts through it, though, before it empties into the sea, so I spent a lot of time there.
[He offers a shrug.]
I never traveled much.
no subject
I've traveled. [ Too much, in fact. ] But rarely had the luxury to stay and enjoy a place like this.
It's... nice. Maybe relaxing is all right, after all.
[ A brief pause, but since they're already on the subject, and it's a rare one-- Curiosity wins out. ]
When you say 'industrial,' is Piltover a lot like Cadens? You seem familiar with the technology in the Free Cities more than others, even before spending as long as you have here now. I mean, I know of course you were an inventor there, with Jayce.
[ It's halfway a question, but Ciri says it lightly, not pressing. She knows, much like herself, many of the Summoned don't prefer to talk about their homes for one reason or another. If Viktor declines or changes the subject, she'll know well enough to take the hint. ]

[Up to the point that it begins to infringe on his productivity. Given the notebook he has with him, it's clear that Viktor may be looking at this as another working getaway.
Still, he doesn't reach for it or otherwise do anything that takes his attention away from the conversation. He seems to understand that the two of them talking about their pasts is something of a rarity.]
Our technology is more advanced, but it's similar, yes. Certainly gave us an advantage, starting here.
[He's sure he could have brought a great deal of innovation to Solvunn, but the lack of resources would have made things difficult.]
By industry, though, I mean factories. Manufacturing. Mining on a scale much greater than here. Those sorts of things.
no subject
[ She's had a few drinks already, and is currently waving down someone (Sephiroth) for more as they speak. Viktor will also receive one, if he wants, courtesy of Ciri's impeccable knack for getting silver-haired men to dote on her. ]
...do you miss it?
That's probably a stupid question.
no subject
[What he doesn't go into is the human and environmental cost of such industry--one of the many sacrifices that Piltover decided it was willing to make for progress. An easy decision, when you've routed the runoff elsewhere and you don't have to look at or think about the people poisoned by it.
So Ciri asks a somewhat complicated--but not stupid--question.]
I miss some things. I'd like to go back, someday. If I can create the right circumstances.
no subject
That's not an answer she's heard before. ]
no subject
[Which is an understatement. He's not sure he's ever explained exactly why, but he finds he's been doing a lot of that lately, given his new relationship status. Why would he want to go back to what's waiting for him in Piltover, if he can't make the necessary changes?]
To be returned there without any memory of this, and potentially no knowledge of my procedure seems...unwise.
no subject
Is that what you think will happen?
no subject
[He doesn't know if that applies to physical changes. Tony came back altered from his experience, and Viktor believes that to be the key.]
Regardless, I don't like the idea that I'm at the mercy of random cosmic forces. [Which is what he considers the Singularity to be.] If I am to stay here, it will be my choice.
no subject
Viktor is right. ]
I couldn't agree more.
Personally, I'm quite tired of random cosmic forces. I've determined to set my own path, Destiny and the Singularity be damned.
[ To which she takes a drink, as if that settles it. As if any of them really have a choice -- though Ciri selfishly, foolishly believes she really could decide to stay here, even come back if needed, and Viktor's information about others forgetting this place won't put too much of a damper on that stubbornness now. ]
I like it here. Very much. [ Despite all the shit that's happened to them. She means it. ]
no subject
As always, she understands.]
I'm glad to hear that. [Viktor likes it here too, largely because of the various opportunities it affords him, but it isn't his home.] The technology I utilized, to cure myself. I need to be able to share it with the Undercity.
[It doesn't sit right with him, otherwise.]
