[ the door swings open, they find each other's eyes, and an unmistakable tension rises in the air. even the patient Castiel's walking out to the lobby feels it, the man clutching his medicinal tea to his chest and skirting awkwardly around Geralt to shuffle out the door to be free of the oppressive vibes.

the sense of broken trust is mutual. while cas understands entirely why geralt went for the kill, it does remove him from the category of those he trusts to keep his loved ones alive in his absence. he doesn't blame him, clearly cas would've done the same in the situation, but he can't work the mental picture free from his head. in the realm of winchesters, family means never giving up on one of your own compromised, ever - we find a way. contain over slay. mercy killing isn't an option - but that's not what dean asks for. he's hardly ever believed he deserves mercy, let alone saving. what dean requests is assisted suicide. it's a nuance missed without the context of history. the aftermath of Hell, John and Mary's deaths, every single loss sustained - jo, ellen, bobby, lisa, kevin, charlie. the list is too long, and each name pulls another block out from under Dean. He's carried a death wish as long as Castiel's known him, a sense his worth only amounts to what he can sacrifice to make up for the mistake of his continued existence, when he's decided it should've been him in any one of their places. Cas trusts a small handful of people to protect him from it (two, exactly).

he told them - geralt, jesper, the others - dean was still there, suppressed by the demon. they'd get him back. there's a way, there's always a way. he's used to angels not listening to him, but there'd been a bond, an earned respect with geralt. part of him is disappointed it was dismissed, perhaps assumed him delusional with grief, rather than a benefit of the doubt he's seen enough fuckery from their home to know better. And yet, he still can't blame geralt for defending his daughter to the best of his abilities.

yeah, complicated. complicated is definitely the word.

it's just odd, this wary uncertainty clouding the room. leaves cas out of his depth, unsure how to act in this precarious situation, so he defaults to the usual stiff, distant, almost tired affect taken with most. ]

I've worked here for months, Geralt.

[ the question doesn't need to be asked aloud - he gets it. part of the appreciation he held with geralt was the ease of reading the intent, unconcerned about cluttering up words when a look, a squint, an uncertain pause communicates it effectively. ]

Nadine left early to study. [ mechanical, detach reporting, a stating of facts and nothing more. ] Do you need supplies?
