[ that is the problem with problems like that. like this. talking about them, saying the thoughts you have aloud, do help. it eases a kind of burden you didn't know you might have had. but it also doesn't do much about the situation itself - and for people who are used to situations that need to be fixed, that need to be attended to, to action, it's a much harder pill to swallow to know there's nothing really that can, or should, be done.
and that's the thing - sam hasn't really ever needed to pry. the information he'd been given when they first left thorne, that geralt needed to keep ciri safe and that needed to be away from the mages of thorne, was all sam had needed. and, honestly, a part of sam thinks that is still all he needs. but it has been years, and after what he saw out there...
