Jesper and Mat ran off together when they realized they could finally room together, something they were never really allowed easily before, although he kissed Kaz and Inej on the cheek before going so they knew where he was. He is well aware that Kaz isn't happy with Mat (and vice versa) and that is unlikely to change, but they haven't drawn him into their conflict. It's not as if they spend every minute of every day together though so Jesper is often out wandering, looking at everything excitedly. He loves new places and things.
The truth is that he can find certain people any time he wants to. Jesper has put items that he made for them and it has a distinct sense only his Durast ways can be pulled to. Tricky, maybe, but when he wants to find them, it's not always easy. Inej with her disappearing tricks, and Kaz with his withdrawing but studying. Except this time when he goes looking, he finds Kaz surprisingly charming a crowd of children.

He notices Kaz using his new magic skills too and there is pride in his heart. He catches Kaz's eye the next time he looks up and winks but he doesn't get in the middle of it. He likes to watch.
It's only after Kaz's little show that he puts up his hand and the coins snap up into it. See, he can do some tricks too, but he wasn't going to take away Kaz's audience. He deserves the attention. "Pretty impressive, Brekker."
