magicalarchaeologist: (so did i)

[ Istredd is not someone who at first glance people would guess at being from the Brotherhood. Most of his fellow mages would say he doesn't fit in well, and he never has. As Stregobor's favorite, he slipped around expectations. He is still a mage, he falls into line as the rest inevitably does, but he spends more time with the average person. He's made friends, he protects who he can. In that they are similar.

The library has infinite knowledge in it, not only from Istredd but from so many Summoned who came through here. It really was the kind of ideal place he would imagine. A permanently fluid library. He watches Jaskier react to his domain and thumb through a book, curious as usual about what people go to first when they have the option. What their choice is, when they can fill it in.

Ciri dislikes Istredd so that lack of sharing makes sense. He is glad, now that they are standing there, that somehow that bizarre experience led to meeting from the continent who is warmer. Better at all this than probably the whole group combined. The question is taken seriously, as monoliths usually are. ]

I was convinced they were the answer to the history of the continent, the explanation of the Conjunction or at least tied to it. I think understanding the past is required to change the future.

[ Istredd crosses his arms against his chest and shrugs, smiling faintly. His voice can be fairly monotone but when he gets talking about these details it gets more enthusiastic, lively. It is less thinking out loud than when he met Geralt though.]

But it turns out I knew even less than I thought. Triss sent Geralt to me to find out why a new monster appeared, coming out of the broken Cintra monolith. We pieced together the theory that the monoliths are gateways to other spheres. The other spheres aren't dead, they simply broke apart.

[ Which means teleporting is possible. Changing spheres is possible. Istredd does not add that Ciri is the one who can open them, because he assumes as Geralt's best friend he knows how she might be mixed up in all of this. But he still doesn't plan on spilling her secrets, no matter how mean she may be to him. His eyes brighten as he talks. ]

I think the theory is true here too. I've spoken to multiple people from other spheres who have something similar to the monoliths. Conduits connecting them to the greater universe.
