magicalarchaeologist: (confused and thoughtful)

[ Because of who Jaskier is, already close and trusted by Geralt and Yennefer, Istredd feels an automatic sense of safety to share. He may not bring up Ciri directly but he still feels this is someone who the other two wouldn't mind him talking about these details about. And since he's not allowed to speak to others, not even to Lucifer, about specific things in case it relates to Ciri, there is an unexpected freedom in a way.

Also Istredd's really bad at holding back information. He's only vaguely learned how in this place. He is too used to trying to get the Brotherhood to listen to him, and then get the elves to listen to him, Cintra to listen to him, etc. An eternal struggle. The scholar that everyone ignores the warnings of to focus on other things, until the thing he is warning about becomes relevant too late. That is how he sees it.

Istredd is very observant but he's too thrilled to be talking openly about this with Jaskier that he isn't paying close attention to his reactions. Outside of that he seems to be the kind of person who doesn't mind listening to a nerd ramble about his theories. ]

No doubt he forgot about me entirely until I showed up here and we've talked about the situation here and thoughts since.

[ It's annoying, yes, but it did make him feel better that he didn't mention Jaskier either. If he is that vague with his closest friend, maybe it's not personal and that's just how Geralt is. Which would be a preference. ]

The Singularity is completely different. Monoliths are gateways but they are objects, they don't feel, they aren't alive. The Singularity is.

[ This is one of his current passions, the Singularity. And slight obsession, but he thinks being obsessed with it is the only rational thing to do here. ]

Yenna trusts you and that is hard to come by. During the Dimming, she and I went to the Singularity with a few other people. It definitely made us magic users hurt for it, but someone with us has a special connection to it. He says it is sentient and I believe him.

[ So it's not a question of whether or not he believes these things, Istredd led a mission that could have been dangerous, with Yennefer. They may not have discovered much themselves, but it's not the end of him either. ]

It's not in the sense of one of us, it's not human or anything connected that way, I don't think it thinks as we do. This psychic plane, for instance, that it's created, just ... incredible. The complexity required for my mind to tell this space to allow you or anyone else to fill these books with whatever they wish, without even thinking about it, and it's fluid, it's ... incredible, honestly. And that's just the Horizon.

[ Who even knows about everything else it is! He pauses though realizing he may have become a little too enthusiastic, clearing his throat. It's hard when it comes to discovery. He was reading books his whole life and then something real happened in front of him. ]

It needs to be protected. From all of the factions. If any of them learned how to weaponize this, it would be disastrous.
