Yes, I was also surprised about that. But apparently, it's somewhat normal for High Mages to live up to a thousand. That one was just particularly long before Ambrose took over.
[ Istredd makes a slight face. ]
Imagine Ambrose at a thousand.
[ He doesn't have a very high opinion of the man and he doubts any other Summoned do, especially the ones who have been there since the beginning. Istredd knows Yennefer longs for Ambrose's death and he doesn't like the idea of him being there for a thousand years. By then he'll probably have broken this world with his Summonings and irresponsible behavior.
On the outside, Istredd appears to be very polite and respectful toward Ambrose. He may not be as good at courts as Yennefer is, but he knows how to be smart when it comes to knowledge and who has it. They're on fair terms, although he doubts Ambrose has forgotten what Lucifer did, and that they share a bed. But Stephen and Istredd are alike, and Ambrose seems to like that 'type' at least to tolerate. ]
Of course. I also have memorized and put several Academic Magic books in here, if you want to learn new spells. I thought it useful for people in other factions to have more access.
[ He knows that Kell smuggled a book to someone in the Free Cities, but this seems far safer and easier. Istredd is surrounded by magic books and he teaches it, they might as well all get something out of it. ]
That is actually why I theorized that the heralds last October, they might not have meant harm in the way we see harm. I don't think it was an attack. If it was based on a blood ritual Summoned did in Solvunn, which seems likely, it may have been them trying to communicate with us.
[ And since they're not human, it felt like an attack. As much as it was a nightmare, Istredd could step back and see how they could have also seen it as bonding, as showing parts of themselves. It could have been a warning too, but he had a feeling it wasn't cut and dry as in they were causing trouble. They're not human anymore, even if they were once as pre-Summoned. ]
