Istredd sighs, rubbing at his eyes. "I'll be honest, as an archaeologist, I have a hard time in general thinking that we have any right to come in and kill the people in charge or the gods or fundamentally change this sphere. What makes us so arrogant as to think we know more than the natives here?" It's something that's been on his mind a lot since he keeps trying to put out fires in Thorne and talking down people.
It's not that he lacks understanding. The queen is a problem, the war is a problem, they aren't going to just let people die here. Istredd would step in wherever he thinks they're backed into a corner. If they have to kill the gods, if they have to kill the royals, or it's the best option, he's not morally going to argue against it.
"Over a thousand years ago on my sphere, there was a conjunction, many spheres crashing together, and it forced species to meet for the first time and find a way to live together. That's not really what ended up happening. The humans took over, and they've spent all the time since trying to wipe the elves out of existence. The elves taught them magic, they exterminated them and pretended the magic was always theirs, they rewrote history, as a conquering force." This probably isn't a surprise to anyone with a few brain cells; humanity can be a real problem, apparently everywhere. But it's not a unique story either, of a conquering group going around terminating threats.
"I'm not saying that we are doing that, what I am saying is we don't want to display actions that could a thousand years from now be that destructive. All this to say ... I don't want to move against the gods if we can help it and I don't think they're the enemy."
