[ CLOSED ] a very avengers family dinner.
When: beginning of august
Where: sam's horizon
What: family dinner!
Warnings: will update if/when necessary
THE HOUSE
For those who have attended one of Sam's Get Togethers before, they'll notice a couple of things. First - there are no decorations, no extra work done for it to Be a Party. Instead, the house looks just as it usually would, welcoming and warm, sure, but no extra effort put in. It's late afternoon (no matter what time you've arrived) and it is hot and humid (late summers in the bayou, baby) with a gentle cool breeze to keep it from being insufferable. The only real indication anything is going on would be the fact the front door is wide open, a distant sound of music, and the incredible smell.
A phenomenal smell, thank you very much. Like someone has been cooking for hours. And truth is, it's taken some work to really get it going, but Sam has kind of (irrationally) held onto this belief that half the enjoyment of something is in the act of doing it. Never mind that he could have easily just created a fully finished and beautiful meal with his brain (since this is in the Horizon and all), he is here for the cooking. And the process. And the tiny reminder of home. And that feeling seeps out of the house as you enter it.
The house is clean, all the windows and doors are open (with screens, thank you). Music can be heard from a speaker in the kitchen, and it probably reaches a whole lot further than the tiny little speaker Sam's using should have any right to. But hey- he'll let some magic seep in. The entire domain is open to be explored, from the practice arena out front to the tv and various gaming consoles in the living room, to the porch and dock out back. If you head upstairs, you'll find two locked doors (one is Wanda's room, which will only open up for whoever she wants it to open up for and the other is Sam's). There's a third bedroom that is open and looks a bit empty, and there's a vague feeling that it used to also be someone's (or, really, a couple of someone's) and it is now just a guest room.
In the dining room is a large table that's not yet set (if someone wants to jump in). There's beer in the fridge if you're into that sort of thing, water out of the sink if you're not, and every now and then two birds may slip through either the front or back door as it opens - one a red-shouldered hawk, the other a small black raven. They seem to be playing, and may even interact with you a bit if you want them to. Otherwise, they'll either settle in their own perches in the corners of the living room, or head back outside.
Dinner will be in an hour or so - a wide variety of seafood and cajun dishes. And if you can't find Sam, he's probably in the kitchen. But also, this is a family dinner - go meet the family. Chat. Get to know each other.OOC INFO
- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, integrate with the cast because we all know they need it, etc.
- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you cause too many issues. :)
- how you get invited / how you end up here is up to you and whoever else you wanna talk it out with. it's possible you overheard and stumbled in, it's possible someone messaged you directly, whatever works best to Get You There.
- any questions? message me at disarmingly

Older song. You might be dating yourself with that.
[they've already established that, back when time flows linearly, matt's four years older than herself. there's no fun at picking at someone her exact same age, at this point, but she'll take her chances.]
I'm pretty sure people dance to these.
[she's the one suggesting a dance? it's what we call growth.]
no subject
( is he picking up what she's laying down? yes. is he going to say that outright? nope. )
That's interesting.
no subject
[wanda says that as she peels away from the counter, noting that matt does his usual bargaining of actions with her. she doesn't mind—never has. it's just how they are.
she takes a few steps back, motioning over her shoulder towards the living room.]
I'll be over here, dancing by myself. In case you get the hint.
[catch her in a corner of the living room, just waiting for him.]
no subject
( he's definitely gotten the hint, he'd just been unsure if she was going to outright ask or just hint.
it's the latter and he laughs, letting her make her way to the corner before he follows her. )
Dancing by yourself is pretty boring, isn't it?
no subject
Are you calling me boring?
[she knows he isn't, but it's fun when they play around like this.]
no subject
( putting words into his mouth, wanda. tsk tsk. )
I think you called yourself boring.
no subject
[he’s got her there, but it’s an amused interjection rather than anything else. with a smile, she moves closer and tucks her hands at his hips, just above the seam of his jeans.]
I resent that, Matt. I thought you were supposed to be nice to me.
[one step closer to dancing!]
no subject
( he said 'think' not 'did.' there's a big difference.
with a small smile, he reaches out for her hand and curls his fingers around hers. )
You want to dance?
no subject
We'd probably do alright if we danced.
[—a slow dance, following the beat of the song chosen. she doesn't need this to be anything extravagant.]
no subject
( but he wraps himself around her easily, pulling her close and resting his cheek on her head. )
No fast dancing. This is about my style right here.
no subject
You're like an old man sometimes.
[and how it feels like a lot of matt's knowledge of the world in terms of music and tv and movies is stuck to whatever he last saw and indulged in back in the mid-90s.
wanda sways with him, going around in a small circle on the spot.]
So much for disliking the Avengers, huh?
no subject
( he doesn't know if he'd ever go so far as to say he agreed with how the group operated but he's gotten a little closer to individual members and he'll admit they're fine.
that's...a lot for him. he hums, shrugging. )
I like you the best.
no subject
[that is an easy enough response from matt, at least. wanda tilts her head up towards him, smiling, and removing a hand from his shoulder to fix his hair a little. even in the horizon, matt isn’t spared from his hair getting messy.
no matter; she likes being the one to fix it.]
Jessica came too.
[and wanda’s happy about that!]
no subject
( someone must have been convincing. )
You've talked to her?
no subject
[that someone is, in fact, wanda, but neither of them needs the obvious to be stated.]
Have you?
[make nice with your friends, matt...]
no subject
( and that's the truth. )
A few times, even. I wanted to make sure she was settling in all right.
no subject
wanda hums at that, stops when the song stops and another one loads.
that’s all he gets. just a hum.]
no subject
( had he said something wrong? he thought he'd been doing good, talking with other people, making friends, helping jessica settle. )
Did I say something wrong?
no subject
We’re dancing. I’m enjoying it.
[wanda presses her head to his shoulder, smiling, letting him sway them about.]
no subject
( my, how things changed. )
Now, you can, huh?
no subject
People change, Matt.
[and, if they find the right dance partner, they become enthusiastic about it, too.]
Don't ruin this.
no subject
( he's allowed to do that, isn't he? but he doesn't say anything else as he holds onto her for their dance. )
See, we're still dancing.
no subject
she picks up her head, tilting her chin upwards, and smiles.]
Maybe we should socialize with others. Later.
no subject
( here and there. he's talked to a few people since he'd gotten there. he hasn't been antisocial. )
And I've see you talking to you. But, we can get back to that later.
no subject
in a way, it's like wanting to have that connection that, as partners, they get to have a foothold in each other's friend groups.
she is trying, too, with jessica. ambiguous as her and matt's 'friendship' is.]
Dancing in silence, then?
[she won't push!]
