[ honestly, sam couldn't even be upset with mal for not bringing it up any sooner. between the first horizon trip for everyone, the subsequent town hall meeting, the rising tensions from the prison, the jailbreak, settling in. sam is glad to have been able to at least convince mal and alina to stay with him once they arrived in the city, because checking up on him is now one less worry that sam deals with day to day, but it's not like they've exactly had it easy.
mal had immediately set off and found a job, and sam has been going pretty non stop since they arrived - between checking in on the people who came through the portal with him to keeping odd jobs around the city going to conversations with the prime minister... it's been a lot. and he'll be the first to admit, he hasn't exactly been available short of trying to make everyone breakfast in the mornings when he can. but even then, their schedules have started to differ, and he's seen mal and alina and peter less and less.
so when he catches the note in his mug right before he'd poured coffee into it - well, sam pretty much makes the decision that he's going to make it, no matter what. jobs, responsibilities, whatever be damned - he is going to be there.
which is why, at roughly 12:06, sam is making it right up the top of the ladder to the roof. ]

[ he mutters, though it's obviously a joke, as he steps his way over the top and lands with a quiet thud. it feels good up here, heights always feel good, and as sam looks out over the rooftops for a moment, red comes swooping in, making a circle around mal before landing on sam's shoulder. when sam looks back, there is definitely a raised brow as he closes the distance. ]
