But he played a long game and she can't imagine wanting to spend years slowly working ones way through bureaucracy until one is in a position to make lasting change. Even then it had taken heightened conflict and war to push forward. ]

I'm no politician...nor do I want to be one, mind you--but I feel like the mistake happens when they believe that the interests of their own people mean to be at the detriment of others. You can help without risking it all, at least in some respects.
