[ OPEN ] i know some places and i've seen some faces
WHO: sam wilson and anyone/everyone.
WHAT: captain america cookout.
WHERE: sam's horizon domain
WHEN: third saturday of september (aka, about 3 weeks after the jailbreak)
NOTES: see below!
HELLO ALL AND WELCOME TO SAM'S CAPTAIN AMERICA COOKOUT!!!!
Over the last week or so, Sam has been going out of his way to contact as many people as he knows to invite them to a cookout at his place in the Horizon. He knows that after the jailbreak, a lot of people were separated, and this was his first thought on how to bring people together. The purpose behind it is simply because Sam thinks that the one thing all of them have in common, opinion on the Singularity and their situations aside, is that they were all brought here and can actually access the Horizon. He sees merit and use in coming together when they can, especially in ways that don't involve the politics of the land they're now living in. So, what better way to do that than around food?
The long and short of it is - this is a peace meal. Leave your issues at the door. Sam has very few rules and there is very little he will give in terms of what this cookout will entail, but three things he will make very clear:
All throughout the party, too, there will be a new friend. Red, as Sam fondly calls him, is a blood-red hunting hawk with silver in between the feathers. He can be found circling around Sam quite often, or perched on his shoulders, but also if you are out and about you can often see him checking up on anyone and everyone. He's a very curious little bird, and also pretty sassy, if you want to interact with him.

If you haven't, or have, been to Sam's domain before, feel free to take a look around. Anywhere is open (save for one locked bedroom) so everyone has open access, but most of the cookout itself will be located in the front yard.

Over the last week or so, Sam has been going out of his way to contact as many people as he knows to invite them to a cookout at his place in the Horizon.
1.) There will be no fighting at his home. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass.The cookout itself is set up out front, with picnic tables and chairs and fire pits and lights abound. There are tables set up near grilles if anyone wants to do any actual cooking outside, and a table (probably multiple) set up with sides and napkins and utensils. There are a variety of different places to go and sit and hang out while you're eating. Anything and everything you can want is available - food, drinks, yard games, music playing from out in the trees that will remain consistent unless someone tries to find the speakers and hijack the playlists, etc. If you can't find something outside, you're more than welcome to check the house.
2.) There is no meeting or serious reason for this cookout. Literally, he just wants people to come together who may no longer be able to see each other due to the travel constraints. It's meant to be fun. Come have fun. (he knows y'all know what that is, even when some of you pretend you don't). Bring food if you want to! There is also a kitchen (if you know what that is) and places to crash. Hope you like seafood!
3.) Anyone who can come into the Horizon is welcome. He'd love it if everyone came, so spread the word.
OOC: This is mean to be an OPEN LOG, so leave your TLs or closed threads below! This party will last basically as long as people want it to, but the idea is for it to be an afternoon into the evening. Y'all have free reign save for destroying Sam's home, but if you have any questions, hit me up on plurk (disarmingly or disco (dai#3757). Sam's TL is below, and he will be bouncing around like the good host he is, but lets get a little party started.

She hasn't yet learned to be both. That trust was never instilled into her. She'd muddled along for years imagining she might be the only one outside her mother who was similarly afflicted. It's still a betrayal, in some ways, to find that there are those who wield it as the gift it ought to have been.
Still, she bristles at the question and the assumption that something must have happened to her that doesn't happen to everyone eventually. The world sinks its claws in one way or another, and you cope as best you can.
"I'm sure Ronan's told you by now. Dreamers like us are getting picked off one by one because they think we're an apocalypse waiting to happen."
It's a bit of a deflection; she was like this before they sent assassins after her, but he doesn't get to know her secrets without trading some in return.

Kylo's quickly learning that there isn't much about Hennessey that isn't protected by layers and layers of projection and deflection. It isn't particularly shocking— most people shroud themselves in one way or another.
"So I must either be a predator like them or prey like you, and you want to know which," he suggests, flat and unblinking. "Do I have it?"
no subject
"No reason you can't be both."
The poisonous flower, killing as swiftly as it's consumed. She tilts her head to the side and regards him as though he's a painting she's trying to make sense of, not as a whole, but the brushstrokes and pigments and the way their artist wielded them.
"You know by now that Ronan can dream anything. It's a smart move, getting him on your side immediately."
no subject
Kylo's lips twist towards a curve. Wrong angle, the look in his eyes suggests.
"I'm not afraid of Ronan, of you, or what either of you can do... and it was Ronan who approached me," he counters smoothly.
no subject
Why wouldn't he? From what she's seen, Kylo's a step up from Bryde in a great many aspects. So much so that she nearly asks him outright if Ronan dreamt him, though she realizes that the only way to know for sure involves murdering her only friend in this place. It doesn't matter, anyway. He's no more or less trustworthy for not being a dream.
"Ronan won't hurt you if he can avoid it. He's still got a functioning moral compass."
She says it a little regretfully, whether because she wishes he didn't or she wishes hers would hurry up and break altogether is anyone's guess.
no subject
"Hennessey," Kylo murmurs, the very picture of patience. "I can read minds. I know what Ronan is."
He leaves the further implications unsaid, more interested in why, exactly, Hennessey would feel the need to offer those words in particular immediately after being told that he isn't afraid.
"I'm not worried about the state of his moral compass. Or yours. I'm not frightened of your abilities, or concerned you might try using them against me. Asking me again won't give you a different answer."
no subject
More immediate, however, is the mind-reading thing. She's only just barely comfortable with the fact that Dreamers can share each other's thoughts while they dream, not least because she's bad at that part of it too. Who wants to go digging around in other people's subconscious? Gross.
"If you can read minds then you already know what I think about people who do it without buying me dinner first."
no subject
His lips pull into an undeniably unpleasant smile, though there's no deliberate menace behind it.
"Few people welcome it. But I don't need to read your mind. You can relax."
Not, he imagines, that she is even capable of such a thing. The truth is, with the amount of roiling turmoil and self-doubt he can feel seeping out from Hennessey's edges, it seems unlikely reading her mind would offer him much insight into what she intends to do next. She barely seems to know herself. Instead, he gestures towards the feast laid out for Sam's guests.
"Dinner appears to be free."
no subject
Being told to relax sort of makes her want to stab him, though. She smiles rather viciously in return and sniffs disdainfully at the standard American barbeque food on display.
"I'm not eating magic food unless it's got some serious hallucinogenic properties to make up for probably selling my soul."
She'd never quite agreed with Bryde on the matter of eating dream stuff, but she still wasn't risking it for food she didn't even like in the waking world.
no subject
What an odd bundle of concepts— hallucinogens, here in the Horizon where reality is already entirely optional, for a Dreamer who can slip into her own unconscious mind and shape it whichever way she pleases, whenever she pleases... and all before the idea of selling souls. Kylo's head tilts slightly as he attempts to piece together the patchwork.
"Pointless," he agrees.
It isn't, of course. Sam's guests appear to be comforted by the performance of cooking and eating together, playing at easy companionship.
It must be pleasant, to be so easily soothed.
"But it seems to help them. Doesn't it."
no subject
She's more interested, though, in the way he seems to analyze people. Like he's above them all, or like he was never one of them to begin with. There's a theory. She decides to test it.
"Hang on, are you actually some kind of alien? Do they literally not have cookouts where you're from?"
She's aware he's not from the same Earth she is, but until this very moment it hasn't occurred to her that he might genuinely be from outer space. This is even more delightful than having managed to briefly bemuse him, and her entire demeanor brightens more than a bit at the possibility.
no subject
"On this planet, we're both some kind of alien," Kylo points out neatly, unblinking.
"But no. I am not from Earth. I'm surprised Ronan hasn't told you."
It had seemed to delight him too, after all. That, and his various ranks and titles, both earned and inherited. Kylo doesn't offer the list unprompted.
no subject
"Are you from the future? Does humanity actually get its shit together and go ruin other planets as badly as we're ruining Earth? Are there finally the stupid flying cars???"
She sounds almost thrilled by the prospect. What a relief, honestly, to learn that the fate of Earth is nearly irrelevant, at least in one corner of the multiverse.
no subject
Kylo watches her face with a vaguely distant flavour of curiosity, assessing her as if he's grouping together concepts like puzzle pieces. These ones are all a similar colour, these ones must go somewhere around here, these ones might be part of a face, a sea, a sky.
"Future is a relative term," he supplies, which is a little cruel in its uselessness, regardless of how factual it is. He seems to recognise it, continuing on a slightly more fruitful tack.
"Without a common point of reference it's impossible to know. But I've visited hundreds of worlds and have traveled throughout the galaxy without ever hearing of a planet called Earth."
