[ It isn't until Adora's finished going on to her gathering partner about all the crystals in Bright Moon and how important they are, that she finally hears words she hasn't had time to think about since they were said.

I am not as strong as Mara. I cannot change my programming. This is our destiny.

Adora's head jerks up, looking over. ]

...Did you hear someone?

[ Before there's a reply, she hears herself, and Adora doesn't move. The words aren't firm or loud as if someone is beside her, but all around her in the air. The voices seem to tumble and gather together until it's almost as if she's blanketed in the miasma of her past. One voice is almost mechanical, robotic with nearly no inflection, and the other, Adora.

No. This is not my destiny.

You will comply.

No!

It is time.

Adora seems caught up in what happens next, dropping heavily to her knees as she listens.

I won't be controlled. I am not a piece of their machine. I am not a weapon. And I'm going to end this now. All at once, the birds whisper in urgent calls, stuck on the monotone voice telling Adora to stop in various ways. Until there's a sudden change of heart and tone. Two final words fade the birds out.

Do it.

Then the scene begins again in a random spot during the middle, and Adora closes her eyes tightly for a few seconds before pushing herself up, features set with her lips in a firm line. ]

Do we have enough to leave?
