Chitin and blood are met by steel and power. The spider, stunned and shell-cracked by Shepard's shockwave struggles sluggishly against gravity and its own rattled body; too slow to dodge, it takes Diana's strike without guard. The point of her sword sliding only briefly against the edge where one metallic bone-plate meets the other before cracking that edge and plunging into soft and yeilding tissue.
The beast shrieks, a teakettle-whistle, and blindly thrashes, trying with its dying strength to claw at her, but its blood is going out and it can't do more than paw weakly with all its legs before they curl up and it falls still.
—But, of course, it was never alone, only the boldest of its kind. Others, gathered like village gossips, circle the perimeter formed by the worst of the fight, testing their reach, hissing and whistling with threat. Shepard, still wreathed in crackling blue, has her back to Diana, fists a-glow.
"Nice work," She opines, not taking her eyes off the monsters as one feints forward and then darts away again at the presumption of their retaliation, "We need to find the pods and move out, before we're totally overrun. Options?"
