[ Most others, he gathers, are accustomed to being a part of something. A nation, a village, a family. Geralt is not. Witchers are firmly neutral—something that only stoked the fear. A people whose loyalties no kingdom can control. Now things have changed—here and back home—and it leaves him in the uneasy position of playing sides whether he wants to or not.

As he told Altair, their very existence is political. More and more, he realizes there's no getting away from that. And that attempting to do so will only risk the people he loves. ]

I know someone was needed. [ Better Claude and Nadine than an untrustworthy face. The Summoned in the Free Cities are large in number. Only a handful would he consider reliable. ] Though I worry our strengthened ties here will be taken advantage of.

[ Will the Nether be forced to choose between nations should it come? Will the aid they received put them in a place where they can neither deny nor sanction any one kingdom without conflict? He held similar thoughts about the Feywilds, but the Fey gave the impression their invitation was carefully calculated. Circumstances in the Nether are far more complicated.

The dragon finally releases his sword. Geralt puts the hatchling on a ledge where it can't make as much trouble, and it curls up with a yawn. He does wish to preserve them. Unfamiliar though he is with the Draconae's history, the extinction of a species is one that sits close to home.

Faint shuffling in the distance, perhaps too quiet for human ears, reminds him they aren't alone. Geralt tilts his head, listening for a moment. ]
Shall we look for dinner?
