But, still—the Force exists around it, fills the negative space. And Jesper sings with it, as do all living things. ]
Nobody taught you? [ Cal remembers their conversation, when he'd first arrived, when Jesper had mentioned that he'd hidden his powers, gone on the run, in order to avoid being pressed into the army—or worse. Even so, he'd never found a teacher? Someone else like him? He's had to figure it all out on his own?
It's a bleak reminder that that's probably the future of the Jedi too, as long as the Empire still stands. Not for the first time, Cal wonders about the Force-sensitive children on that list—the ones whose fates he'd left to the will of the Force.
Still, he amends, sober: ] Guess that'd be pretty tough when you're in hiding. Can I see that?
[ He gestures to the chair, indicating it. ]

[ The only teachers Jesper could find are in the army itself, and that would require being taken. He knows that he and Wylan were talking about trying to find a teacher back home, now that they have the money to perhaps hire someone, but he still hasn't shaken that innate fear there. Here, he feels differently. He's been unafraid of his powers for over a year now, and it's made a huge change for him. ]
It's strange to be using it so freely here. But I still am careful. I don't want the army here getting an idea too.
[ Jesper doesn't think they would go after him for the telekinesis, they have plenty of soldiers who are good at their jobs. The corecloth, now that he could either make a lot of money off of, or they might want to scoop him up. Bulletproof clothing that requires no magic at all, that's the sort of thing that could get attention. He doesn't want to risk it, he has no trust for the government.
He offers Cal the chair readily enough, curious about what he'd want it for. ]
Course. Are you going to show off, because I'd love that!

Sometimes he wonders if the Order would even recognize the Jedi he's become. ]
Don't blame you for that. [ For wanting to avoid the army, that is. Cal doesn't have any reason to mistrust the Free Cities military, but he doesn't have any reason to trust them either—and given his complicated experience with war and occupying forces, he's more predisposed to mistrust.
So he doesn't want the army getting any ideas either. ]
I—not exactly. [ He's caught off guard by the enthusiasm, by how quickly Jesper cottoned on, blinking at Jesper as he drags the chair towards himself. ] I was just going to... [ Well. He's already in this. Might as well explain. ] I can see memories attached to objects, echoes in the Force of past moments. I just wanted to see if I could sense what you did.

They came sniffing around here before for me. [ He says grimly. ] During a supply run mission we came to a gap without a way across so I turned a tree and the earth into a bridge. They distracted the soldiers but it wasn't good enough, they reported what they saw.
[ Jesper's fear when Claude told him he'd been questioned stayed with him. He was afraid for Ciri, that she'd be questioned and her teleportation would've come up, so he protected her by admitting to it when pressed. It wasn't a great moment for him. ]
I was interrogated and I had to tell them the truth. They left it at that for now, but they know me now.
[ And that comes with all kinds of problems as Cal can guess. The army threat is around him at all times now because they know at least some of what he can do. He suspects they wouldn't have asked if they didn't want to know who made that bridge. If it wasn't important, no one would have bothered. He was using his telekinesis openly and no one questioned that, but it's made him tense ever since. ]
Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed, I just think you're interesting.
[ And that means he's curious what he's capable of. Everyone around here has some kind of gift, whether it's natural or created here, so he jumped there. But he's definitely into it as he sets the chair down and lets Cal do whatever he wants to it. He listens to his explanation and smiles. ]
That is unique. Not sure I've heard of that before.
[ If so, no one told him. If Cal does use it, he would be able to see the memories of the chair itself, but also of it being modified and altered. Not just once; Jesper's fixed imbalanced chair legs before, nicks when he saw them, this has already been a patchwork job in the making. ]
