Who: himeka sui & wanda maximoff
When: some time in december before event
Where: woods northeast of the primary settlement, solvunn
What: attending some casual meetings
Warnings: tba
[initially, when himeka and wanda had overheard of some meetings taking place, they had been intrigued, but figured it was just another thing that took place in solvunn that the summoned were not privy to. information from alucard and thancred did, however, bring upon them the realization that maybe they ought to pay more attention to the 'unofficial' things taking place. there is no real reason for alarm, is what the two women think, but last time they had just assumed things were normal, josselyn's cult struck.
they'd be damned if something similar were to happen again.
the first meeting they attended, it was with the gracious invitation of the gardsbruk twins. it was the only way they had managed to find their way through the shroud of the trees, made somewhat worse by the cover of light snow, making everything look more of the same. little had been gleamed from this meeting, other than the rites for prayer, basic socializing, and high magic rituals. all in all, nothing out of the ordinary.
there are familiar faces all around them, the second time around, and the two summoned are greeted with a little more enthusiasm.
wanda steps over a fallen log, her boots making an indent on the snow as she takes a few more steps. the gardsbruk twins, their most familiar link here, are not anywhere she can see, but familiar faces from the settlements—all three—at large, can be seen. a couple of children wave at the women, and wanda returns it, glancing back at himeka once their attention is elsewhere.]
Ready to socialize? I think we have some time before the prayers start.

it gives her the perfect spot to see himeka enthusiastically and effectively market her food-wares to the children, her voice drawing forward more to come around and see about the freshly made treats. )
I think those might be my favorite.
( she answers himeka’s question easily, and that’s enough for the children to want to try out the cheese-filled ones. a hand is held out to keep the extra string the child by her lap is trying to sort out. )
Are they spicy?
( wanda purses her lips in amusement. )
I’m not the person to ask about that.
( she loves her spicy food, so her spicy-meter is broken a bit. )

The goat has a bit of chili.
[ Despite not having much in the way of spices in the Ruby Sea, her culinary journey has also led Himeka to an indulgence in spices both in flavor and heat. Cooking with Wanda is a fun, if dangerous adventure in that. ]
Just a bit?
Would you like to try it?
[ Two of the children exchange glances. ]
...Okay!
[ Himeka smiles. Brave little ones! She fishes out one of the goat pies--easy to tell which is which based on the cuts she put in the top--and breaks off a small piece for each. The children each take a tentative bite at the same time after counting down to one. Their eyes go wide, and while one coughs a bit, the other holds their hands out for the whole pie. Himeka laughs and hands over the rest, while offering the coughing child the lamb instead. ]
Here, this should suit your palette a little better.
[ Feeding and entertaining children is something she always enjoys and Wanda herself has a natural knack for it. Himeka knows why, of course, and wisely chooses not to bring up that bit of trauma that hangs over her no matter how well Wanda holds herself. But it doesn't stop her from wondering about the others in their midst, the adults in this group.
When they seem filled of pies and gifts, she moves to take a seat next to the other woman. ]
I wonder if children flocked around Josselyn Creed the same way they do here...

especially with summoned like himeka and wanda, who have been here for more than two years now, they are but familiar faces that have seen these children grow from toddlers who could barely put sentences together to more world-understanding kids.
as himeka takes a seat beside wanda, the ones that sat with her to deal with the wooden toys have now ran off with their friends to fall into their usual groups—either sitting on their haunches or trying to climb a tree with a grand number of branches. wanda sits back, straightening her shoulders, and taking in the words offered. )
We don't have reason to believe Josselyn aimed her words at the children, but they might have easily done as told.
( she stretches her legs out, letting her boots dig into some snow. )
Nothing seems out of the ordinary with the prayers and rites we saw last time.

So she nods, accepting in part because she wants that to be the truth. There is more going on in Solvunn behind the scenes that just what Josselyn had created. That is partly why they're at this little village, isn't it? But sometimes it's hard to look beyond the friendly faces and genuine well wishes.
It's unfortunate that such can be borne darker things. ]
No, it's all very...normal.
[ As normal as things are in Solvunn. ]
Do you think this is nothing more than people hoping for a better future?
[ That could be all "A New Day" is, couldn't it? ]
no subject
Even though we've been in Solvunn for too many years, I don't think we can call ourselves experts in every bit of nuance the people practice in their rites.
( it's a humbling feeling; rules and laws are there, written and perceived, but there is so much that reminds them that they are foreigners. )
It depends what a 'better future' means to them, too.

The gods are fascinating. Their beliefs guide them in the best and worst of ways. Himeka believes that, for the most part, it is for the best. They just want to live happy lives. Who doesn't want that? ]
They want the Singularity to remain as is, don't they? Solvunn doesn't like that the other nations try to interfere with it.
[ She brings a hand to her chin as she thinks. ]
Mayhaps that better future would be one without...influence or meddling? Where they know their way of life is secured and the gods and the Singularity are happy?

( leaning back a touch, wanda glances up at the canopy of frozen leaves above them. light streams through when the breeze manages to push the heavy branches just so. )
—you'd think they would have tried to get closer far before we ever arrived here.
( a pause, as she glances back down, starts to see movement of the adults closer to the area where the actual rite is going to take place. )
Maybe it's something about this portion of the land.

A terrifying prospect if they are able to enact their desire to destroy it...the ramifications therein are something that does worry her. Trying to rid the world of something so powerful could literally destroy the world itself if they're not careful. The Singularity may be vital to its very integrity.
Things she wishes the other Scions could think through for her. No matter her own experience, Himeka still feels wholly inadequate at making those calls. It's much easier to be the one that charges forward where she's told. ]
Do you think it's more powerful than others? Magically or something.

Culture, tradition. ( —and with that, leans forward to slowly rise to her feet, her boots crunching down on snow as she steadies herself. ) I would fight to keep my family's home and live in it if I could.
( wanda and pietro had, in fact, tried to do something like that, even if it resulted in a failure. )
They for their shrines here, anyway. They got a place like this for their rites.
no subject
...I certainly couldn't blame anyone for that.
[ Her own hometown had fled, specifically, to avoid conflict. But they still protect their way of life in other, more defensive ways. ]
We should see how much of an active part we can take in their next ritual. Get a better feel for the ley lines here.
no subject
she nods at the suggestion. )
Let's gather the children back to ritual site. We might get to witness something of note.
wrapping here?
And...should anything drag on too long, they are usually the first to make light of it. ]
At the very least, it won't be without entertainment.
🎀
they will pray and join in their chants, displaying their commitment to the commune and this particular sect—their support, too, as they bid welcome to the ritual with respect. )
