[ Hilda doesn't expect her pep talk, reassurances or whatever it is they want to label her clumsy words of conviction as to actually change his mind. She's no rousing leader or encouraging figure. Her preference would to be the opposite of that - that is, any role that isn't saddled with crippling responsibility. But as she was starting to discover, she would do most things for those she called her friends.
When she feels the weight of Jayden's head lie gently against hers she still doesn't think he's changed his mind; even if she had been someone who had a way with words, something like that wouldn't happen so soon or so quickly. But she can hope that it will plant the seed that he does matter all the same.
Staying like this, with their heads leaning lightly against one another's is comforting in an odd way even taking into account this awful backdrop.
