In my mind, self-regulation errs more towards making sure actions directed towards each other don't catch those not involved in the crossfire, be it among each other or the wider world. The same goes for when forms of worship spiral outwardly with or without our sanctions. My mind turn towards the matter some time ago when ascensions were forced on what is now the Isle of the Lost as an example of that.

[It's preamble, but in doing so, it sharpens the question to the finest point.]

Perhaps better considered, I think I am concerned about when it is appropriate to interfere and potentially force one's ethical code on another of us that are long lived.
