[ It's not that Cassian is trying to purposefully avoid Nebula. It's more like he's trying to purposefully avoid the scolding that he knows will come from her if she discovers the state of him. He is a creature of habit, even in the face of all the scolding that he's been on the receiving end of.
He's never had to exist in a time of peace for so long, but there's always pockets of fettered mortals that need his help and he's never one to turn a blind eye. But in an effort to not give so much of himself away, he had been overzealous in his assistance this time and done the very thing he had promised Serenity he wouldn't do: give too much of himself away.
The mortals that needed his help have succeeded and gotten away safely which is cause for celebration alone. But with reward comes a cost, leaving him weakened and tired, hungry and missing parts of himself. Dust and sand swirl in the places where his left arm and torso should be (it feels like the back of his neck is missing too but if he can't see it then it's probably fine).
He needs sustenance. That will be the only thing that keeps him from crossing paths with someone who will scold him. But of course, the moment he arrives in Solvunn to find Azem he runs into Nebula instead. There's a brief pause as he shifts what should be his left hand into the pocket of his jacket. ]
