Too often Mara keeps a mere suggestion of form. Mortals don't see him, and Sabine can simply look into his mind whenever they talk. So it's hard to remember to keep something that puts limits on his magic. It's Jesper who always reminds him why it's good to have a body. One that can be touched, kissed, and held. That can do those same things to others too.

"I'll try not to make them chase me away with a broom for monopolizing your attention."

Not that it ever happened. It not happening never stopped certain someone from joking constantly about the possibility of it. Mara has his own special connection with Mat. They were friends first, then lovers, and now they sit somewhere in between and Mara is very content with it. Mat is his best friend. One who understands him the best. So well, they jump into bed together whenever mood strikes them.

He's nowhere this close with Jesper's second husband. Their paths cross from time to time and Mara rejoices every time. He respects Guardian of the Covenant greatly.

Now his thoughts are all on Jesper and Jesper only. He who like no other can awaken a special kind of fire inside of him. Such a visceral yearning that Mara can practically taste it.

"I missed you so much."

They might have seen each other an hour ago and it would still be true. Such is the power of his divine lover. All he wants to do now is dive right into it, but there's a question that deserves answer. It would have been callous and cruel not to.

"Scattered. Like I can't find a place or finish a thought in peace."

Something bothers him, but Mara doesn't like thinking about what bothers him. He prefers an escape. A distraction. There a few more perfect distractions than a beautiful lover. Jesper being the most beautiful of them all. But Mara also knows that out of all the lovers in the world, Patron of the Cherished won't just let him evade forever.
