Claire nods, not realizing she's echoing Julia's thoughts. "Humans always want to believe they'll be the one to beat the odds. I don't know what that is, some sort of primal over-confidence." To be the one who goes down in history as the one who pulled one over on a god.

"You walk among them still because you still have hope, no matter how buried it may feel. This is why I come here when I need things to feel easy and right," she admits. "I understand feeling the need to perhaps pull back, I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as you don't sink into it."

Even when Claire was at her lowest, when she was alone and left with echoes of bad choice after bad choice to unravel for the humans, she made room for it. Because nestled in there were hopes for time to unravel just enough to make a better choice, and that's always what she's searching for: those who simply want to do better. She doesn't operate quite the same as Julia, but she likes to think she understands, at least a little. Enough.
