horse acquisition, put it on the list

For Michael, their experience of a potential future changed nothing about his perspective on the gods—except that he now suspects the Singularity keeps them captive, too. It hasn't changed his feelings on faith. Fanatics are dangerous people. He remembers where blind loyalty got him, and he intends to never repeat the experience.

He nods. Of course they didn't say more. All too often, their hosts are frustratingly vague about the how and the why of the favours they ask. Sometimes it seems it's because they expect the Summoned to have a natural, intuitive knowledge of their ways, but the rest of the time it feels as if they're keeping secrets. Michael's opinion of pagan worshippers tints his perception of their attitude, too.

At least they shared the symbol they're meant to be searching for instead of telling them they'll know it when they see it. He keeps an eye out for the tree they're after, as well as anything threatening that might have made its way out from the deepest sections of the forest.

"It was worth it to her." He isn't close to anyone on the Council. It affects him the same way he expects the death of a celebrity she isn't familiar with might affect Claire. "I think it's foolish to sacrifice the knowledge and experience of an elder member of the community, but I suppose that was the point. I also think Solvunn has enough gods as it is. On the other hand, Thorne has proven itself the most aggressive territory. Any barrier against them is a good thing.

"Your thoughts on the matter?"
