She's teasing but stops to turn back, walking toward the tree. "Youth indeed. I bet they didn't expect an old woman to come behind them and clean it up." Pressing her palm to the carving, she concentrates until a soft blue and white aura blurs the marking and then, as it fades, takes the carving with it so that nothing is left behind but unblemished bark.
"There. That was satisfying."
She's still caught up in her worry when Michael begins to allay her fears, and Claire feels a weight lift from her shoulders. None of the Summond are susceptible, which doesn't stop the worry she has for the people who can fall ill, but it scales back her fear for those she cares for deeply.
"I don't know how much logic versus hunger for destruction or power plays into the decision-making. Does that make this a roulette of a war, with the odds favoring continued attacks on the Free Cities?"
