[ A many of few words, apparently. Then again, so is Cassian depending on the subject or if you catch him in any sort of particular mood. And considering the subject matter, it doesn't sound like something that he would be particularly inclined to expand upon either.
In fact, from what little he's managed to piece together, revisiting it wouldn't be his first choice. So it stands to reason that he moves right on from the subject. ]
Ten months ago give or take a few days. If you asked me then I would have thought I'd be back in my galaxy by now.
[ His lips twitch slightly in amusement, getting a strange ghost of a feeling like this was the dynamic they'd had as gods. The familiarity, real or not, is nice. ]
Does naming something have a particular look?
[ What does someone who names something even look like?
The nameless kitten yawns before he settles quietly into Cassian's lap. As much as he'd caused him grief, Cassian can't help but quietly admit that he's cute. ]
He doesn't seem bothered without a name for now. Maybe I can think on it.
[ His eyes skip back towards her. ]
If you think of anything, let me know. I'm open to names.
[ Better safe than sorry in this case, and so Tifa doesn't begrudge Cassian hoisting himself up onto the opposite rooftop so that they have all their bases covered.
Although that's impossible, with a cat. They'll always find some corner to scurry into or some other path of escape if they really want to.
Thankfully, Cassian's keeping enough of a distance that the kitten doesn't feel boxed in, and soon enough it climbs right into Tifa's lap to get to the toy and start attacking it again. Its tail whips from side to side as it pounces on its prey.
Now that the cat is well and truly distracted, Tifa glances over to Cassian and nods. If he approaches quietly and without making any big movements, he can probably snatch the cat up once and for all. ]
[ The moment the cat ends up in Tifa's arms again Cassian's body language visibly relaxes. The last thing he wanted to do today was try and leap across the rooftops of Nocwich trying to track down a cat.
But it's not quite over yet. He still has to take the damn thing back from Tifa and bring him back to Thorne with him.
With an ease that denotes he's probably done this a couple of times in his life, he makes his way across the roof to Tifa's side, extending his arms out for the cat. As grateful as he sounds he also wears the look of a weary (cat) dad. ]
Thank you. I might have to call you to cat sit in the future.
[ between catering exactly to her pride and her deepest desires to shape a world of permanence, the godly illusion really did a number on her she thinks she's still sorting through, however long ago it was. cassian might say her apology is not necessary, but annabeth certainly feels otherwise. ]
[ it's almost exactly what percy tried to reassure her - that it doesn't matter how long it took, or what she did while resisting, the most important part was she woke up. she has a hard time sitting with that, knowing the physicality of her resistance towards people very important to her. ]
It's important to me. So just let me apologize. I know it wasn't real but - [ bob cat spares her by wriggling around and readjusting himself for more pets. ]
[ The (brotherly) urge to tease her and say that she has already apologized rears, but he allows it to slip away as Bob Cat beats him to the chase in some way. He knows that there's more to her past that he isn't aware of, but they had all had their fair share of regret during their time as gods. The list of things that he had done in this imagined future feels like a stain that he can't wash himself clean of no matter how hard he tries. Apologizing, facing the things that they've done head on, isn't an easy thing to do. Little does Annabeth realize, but she's already far braver than he feels at his lowest points. ]Â
You won't be.
[ He shifts again, feeling the bulk of something in his pocket. Reaching in he pulls out one of Bob Cat's toys. With a sigh he tosses it onto the bed where the cat, hearing the familiar jingle of the bell twists to reach for it across the bed while still refusing to leave Annabeth's warm lap. ]
And even if you do, I get the feeling you'll have others here who will snap you out of it.Â
[ She says abruptly and quickly, but offers no further elaboration on. The "particular look," could easily be taken as someone not her. But... it's Himeka who flashes into her mind. Himeka and her easy, overflowing excitement for life. Certainly, someone like her would have named many things and insisted on it.
Or the Doctor. Hewas most insistent on the meaning behind a name. ]
[ She breathes as she stands to stretch. ]
It's a cat. Most likely you could just call it Dumb Cat and it would accept it as a name. Names are more for you than them.
[ He asks - again - or suggests she try and she glances at man and cat. Lips purses in consideration as if she might actually try to think of a name. All she can think of is how, once, she thought Milano was a stupid name for a ship and lacked intimidation. What kind of name did a cat even have? ]
[ Tifa does note the way that Cassian approaches, how he manages to keep his footsteps light and avoid making too much sound. It's the sort of thing that Yuffie is capable of, in theory, though it's not often that Tifa would ever think of that girl as quiet.
Once he's close enough Tifa picks the cat up out of her lap and hands it over, smiling when it wriggles but also doesn't put up too much of a fight. It seems like it's gotten enough enrichment by making them chase it around Nocwich.
She laughs as she pushes up to her feet and dusts herself off. It's actually kind of neat to see all of Oleuni Square from up here on the roof. ]
That might be kind of tough if you're not in Solvunn. [ And she's pretty sure he isn't; she's never seen him around the settlement. ] But you're welcome to message me if you have any questions?
[ The kitten seems a little more than chagrined that they've been returned to their weary father's arms. But to Cassian's credit he seems to have gotten a hang of keeping a hold on him now. Even the little pokes and scratches from the kitten seem to go ignored save the odd wince or so. With his new pet sated at least for the time being he turns his gaze out towards the bustling community below. ]Â
I'm not. I'm in Thorne. But I could give him to you every other month if you're interested.Â
[ Tifa being in Solvunn would explain why he hadn't seen her around. The castle was large but not so large that he hadn't at least become acquainted with the faces of the Summoned. As for whether or not he's being serious about handing off Bob Cat to her every other month - well that mostly seems to be a joke. Mostly.
But for now he offers her a weary lift of his lips. ]Â
I will. Thank you for helping me. I appreciate it.
[ he's so reassured in it, in a faith in her, and it reminds her a little of percy's unshakable similar beliefs. annabeth has always been someone who simply wanted people to care about her. it always felt harder than it should have been. ]
[ it doesn't feel so hard anymore. her hubris is a constant battle, and she's not sure that will ever change given the nature of a demigod's fatal flaw, but cassian might be right about her having people here to help her. she proved she can handle herself following the mark of athena, but it doesn't mean she's alone all the time. not anymore. ]
[ she leans over and scoops the toy up for bob cat, dropping it closer so he can play with it in her lap. ]
Maybe you have a point. [ she'll tease a little though. ]
Yeah. [ Percy nods sagely. ] We'll draw up a whole contract and everything. You can expect to find one mailed to your place of residence in about three to five business days.
[ He has no idea what he's talking about, but the business-y mumbo jumbo sounds kind of convincing at least, right? ]
[ Cassian really should know better by now. But he's out of practice dealing with younger siblings. Something faintly in the back of his mind has him wondering if this is how he and Kerri would have interacted had they had the chance to grow up together. Or would interact, rather as he reminds himself. As smart of a man as Cassian is he's not about to let old habits die hard. Especially when they seem to be on a roll.
And secretly, a part of him is enjoying this. He lets out a noise of pure skepticism. ]Â
Five snacks an hour for each of you and the cat? Or five snacks for both of you to share?Â
[ Cassian hopes that when he says that there will be those that will be there to snap her out of it, she understands that he counts himself among those numbers. And when she teases him back, he thinks that she does.
A quiet warmth settles around him as he watches Bob Cat play contentedly in Annabeth's lap. ]
Tomorrow then? To get supplies. We can go after your class.
[ Just because they've both skipped classes before doesn't mean that he's about to continue encouraging it. It's about balance. ]
I can't share with him, he eats too much. [ please, cassian, have you see this boy inhale his food? ]
Bob Cat's food supply should be separate, as he is a cat, and I don't know how to break it to you, Cassian, but we people don't eat cat treats or cat food. [ there's your cat fact from annabeth for today. bet you learned something there. ]
[ something in her expression lightens unexpectedly. tomorrow, after her classes. it's a small bit of consideration that brings a quieter smile to her face. tomorrow, after class, to get supplies so she can build bob cat a tree. cassian wants her along, and he factored in her own potential schedule. ]
Sounds like a plan to me. I'll work on some ideas today then too.
[ she is definitely gonna spend some time tonight sketching up a storm. ]
